2017 DAVID J. STICKLER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND
PURPOSE:
The David J. Stickler Memorial Scholarship is provided to an outstanding high school senior or currently enrolled college student who is pursuing or planning to pursue higher education in a Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math (STEAM) field.
ELIGIBILITY:
Applicant must be a graduating senior on FIRST Robotics Team 225 TechFire OR must be a graduate of FIRST Robotics Team 225 and be currently enrolled in an accredited 4-year university. Family members of the TechFire Robotics of York Board of Directors are not eligible to apply.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
An independent selection committee will evaluate the applications and select the recipients considering:
• High School/College GPA
• Activities resume
• Essay content
AWARD:
TechFire Robotics of York (TROY) will provide a single, one-time award in the amount of $500 to be used toward the cost of tuition at an accredited 4-year university.

Application Deadline: Applications must be postmarked by August 8, 2017. Application and required materials should be mailed to TechFire Robotics of York, 21 Ferndale Road Seven Valleys PA 17360. Alternatively, applications can be scanned and emailed to [email protected]
TechFire Robotics of York will award the approved scholarship directly to the college or university after proof of enrollment is provided.
ABOUT DAVID STICKLER: Dedication to Excellence and Service to Community
David was the Director of Innovation Technologies in the Research and Development Division of NRG Energy, Harrisburg. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving as the Surface Ship Nuclear Propulsion Plant Supervisor - Reactor Control, on The U.S.S. Nimitz. David was a very active partner of the LCBC Church-York Campus. He was a Life Group Leader for the LCBC J Crew youth group, a 4 year participant in LCBC's Men's Fraternity Bible Study, and could always be seen volunteering for various projects at the church. David was a graduate of Penn State University with a Bachelors in Engineering and a Master's Degree in Business. He was a co-founder and treasurer of the Eastern Knights Lacrosse Foundation, a volunteer assistant with Eastern York High School Lacrosse team, a certified coach with the Eastern York Youth Lacrosse Club, and a board member and treasurer of the York County Lacrosse Association. He was the founder, co-director and active volunteer of Shared Pew Missions, a non-profit committed to youth and adult home repair mission trips.
David J. Stickler met TechFire at the 2013 FIRST World Championship where he attended as the representative of NRG Energy, major sponsor of FIRST. David enthusiastically pledged his support for Team 225 and spent several months helping TechFire develop a nonprofit organization, TechFire Robotics of York. David's leadership was invaluable and his friendship and service to the community will serve as an ongoing inspiration to the many lives he touched.
